In class students are responsible for a grammar
notebook as well as a vocabulary notebook. Students should bring
home their vocab notebook nightly as we have Riggs homework. If
we have a Greek and Latin root quiz or students need to finish in
class grammar work, they will bring them both home. In grammar
students have done a great job showing what they know, and working
toward building our solid foundation. Currently, we are working
on our Common Core Standards and understanding pronouns in their
specific cases.
Writing is beginning to take off as students have created a checklist in which they are comfortably challenging themselves. Students should be working through one writing sample from rough to final draft per week. Reading groups are going well as we have worked through some informational text and will now explore literary text. If you would like to volunteer, our reading group time is from 11:15 until 11:45 everyday. |
Students did a wonderful job keeping up on math
during outdoor school The material will begin to get harder as the
review part of our book is coming to a close. After doing a
notebook check last week most students are forming good math
habits. The notebook was checked on the following:

We have finished our desert unit and are now
moving into our Ancient Greece and Rome unit in History. Students
were given an art project that is due Monday, October 28th.
If this is news to you, please ask your child what the project
guidelines are! We will be making simple mud homes like the
Greeks later this week as well as cardboard armor if there is
time. Students will have some light history reading assigned
throughout next week.
In science we are in the midst of our plate tectonic unit. We learned some great things about the Juan De Fuca Plate, as well as the North American Plate, while we were at outdoor school. We will continue to explore what is happening beneath us this upcoming week. We will explore types of plate movements with graham crackers, play-doh and our bodies. Also, we will look at our earthquake software (that continually looks at seismic activity in Oregon and on our own campus) in the science laboratory. Song writing will be happening as well! |
Have an
adventurous week!
