In the classroom......
Math
We
are two lessons away from finishing the book, so we are right on time!
Next week we will be focused on our benchmark test and our final push
to master any objectives we have not shown mastery of thus far.
Language Arts
We
had an outstanding time at the play Gathering Blue on our last field
trip of the year! We actually finished the book on the bus, just before
seeing the play, so it was very cool! Reading groups is taking a
different spin as we are working as a whole class on the book The Tale of Troy and making trading cards of the characters. We will end up doing a readers theater by the end of the book.
Riggs
will continue through the end of this week and then we will be done
with Riggs homework. Your child was given their last orthography test
to take home and show you so you know where they are as a speller and if
they need to work on strengthening spelling over the summer.
In IEW students did an excellent job on their persuasive essays and feedback began on those yesterday.
For this assignment they personalized their checklist to their ability
level, so they know what to work on over the summer and/or they know
where to start next year. They will be writing a paragraph beginning today about immigration to wrap up our unit.
Core Knowledge
We are wrapping up our immigration unit with a guest speaker today.
Our guest is Mr. Moutos and he emigrated here from Greece when he was
13. He tell stories from the a point of view that most of us have never
experienced. Last week, students did an excellent job of getting into
groups and teaching each other the chapters. Their public speaking
skills have greatly improved since the beginning of the year! This week
and next week we will be working on astronomy and mapping the world by
heart.
Thank you for the tokens of appreciation during teacher
appreciation week. I love presents and end up embarrassing some
students when they give them to me as it is such a nice gesture. I am
thankful also for the luncheon sixth grade provided the staff. It is
hard to believe the year is almost over. Thank you all for sharing your
children with us!
Have a wonderful day,
Miss King
