Hello again! Today we went to the computer lab and did our final drafts [again.] We have a heavy load of homework tonight with lesson 55 in math, riggs, reading chapter 11 in Tale Of Troy aka TOT, checking up on science fair notebooks and memorizing the second verse in our Julius C. rap. It snowed today and we played in it and I was really cold. Have a good night!

Hello! I am sorry I didn't get to blogging a few days ago, we were really busy! Today we had Ms.Barrent as a teacher because Mrs.King's baby is sick. News You Can Use

Dear Sixth Grade Families,

Important Happenings Around Campus:

No FISH--Data regarding FISH is being analyzed and our staff will communicate weather or not it will continue after winter break.  Until then, there is no FISH.

PTA Meeting--Dec. 11th at 6:30pm.  Come and be a part of our amazing PTA.

No Music or World Language--Week of December 16th.  Students may leave their instruments at home and practice, practice, practice!

Winter Core Knowledge Showcase--December 18th, 6:30pm.  Students need to arrive at 6:15pm and report to their classrooms.  Come and enjoy Core Knowledge songs, and some dances based on what each grade has been learning.

Winter Break--NO SCHOOL--December 20-January 5th.  Enjoy your time with family.

In the Classroom:

In language arts we are reading Tale of Troy as a class and hopefully you know this because your child has brought home the book and read the assigned chapters.  The book should always come back to class the following school day. We are still working on pronouns, diagramming sentences, and expanding our checklist capabilities in IEW.  Currently, students are working in the lab (a bit slower than I anticipated) to print up their five paragraph, creative writing piece.

We will focus on science fair over the next month and will be starting our human body unit in the days allowing. With Greece and Rome coming to a close, we will be starting our Judaism and Christianity unit tomorrow. The objectives covered are as follows:

• Basic ideas in common
The nature of God and of humanity
Hebrew Bible and Old Testament of Christian Bible
• Judaism: central ideas and moral teachings
Torah, monotheism
The idea of a “covenant” between God and man
Concepts of law, justice, and social responsibility: the Ten Commandments
• Christianity: central ideas and moral teachings
New Testament
The Sermon on the Mount and the two “great commandments” (Matthew 22: 37-40)
• Geography of the Middle East
Birthplace of major world religions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam
Anatolian Peninsula, Arabian Peninsula
Mesopotamia, Tigris and Euphrates Rivers
Atlas Mountains, Taurus Mountains
Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, Black Sea, Arabian Sea, Persian Gulf
The “silk road”
Climate and terrain: vast deserts (Sahara, Arabian)
Students will be bringing home their history books tonight, as delicate as the topic of religion can be, this is a wonderful opportunity for families to talk about their beliefs, heritage and perspectives!  Those conversations will prove much more valuable than our brief study at school.  This unit will be covered in seven days and take us to winter break.

Last week students did not have Riggs, that is not the case this week so students will have Riggs homework.

Math is going well, although some students are "hitting the wall" as review time is well over and new materials are getting hard.  Please help your child and me by checking over their already corrected work and see how many errors they are making and then keep them honest about reworking missed problems. Many students are forgetting to get their test signed and this is troublesome.  You should see a test, about every week, come home to be signed.

I have attached some pictures of Core Knowledge fun.

Have a safe and healthy week,

Miss King

P.S. If you get a phone message stating that your student did not get their planner signed, please take it as them taking responsibility for not having you sign it.  We are slacking!
